Project Overview

EV chargers often sit at the edge of a parking bay, right where a car or van can catch them. A knock can damage the unit and take it out of service. We were asked to make a batch of 100 steel halos that go around the chargers and take the hit instead.

The Challenge

On a batch this size, every halo has to come out the same. They all need to fit the same chargers and fixings, so any small difference in shape or size means a halo that doesn't fit on site. The job was to make 100 that were each as good as the first.

Our Approach

We set the job up so it could be repeated quickly and accurately. Each halo was fabricated and welded to the same measurements, then checked before we moved on to the next, so the last one off the bench matched the first.

The Result

100 matching halos, ready to fit, giving each charger a strong steel guard against everyday bumps in the car park. Made from start to finish in our Little Hulton workshop.

Now with our own mandrel tube bender

Since this job we've added a Transfluid mandrel tube bender to our workshop. It bends tube up to 76mm with smooth, round bends and no creasing, which means fewer joints and nothing sent out. Ideal for halos, handrails, barriers and frames. See our tube bending
