Project Overview
Ironworx Engineering was engaged by Structures Group to adapt and preserve a historic cast iron canopy from the Galleries at Wigan Markets, so it could be repurposed instead of being lost.
The Challenge
Historic cast iron needs careful handling. It is brittle, and it can't be repaired like modern steel. The canopy had to be moved, restored and adapted without damaging its original character.
Our Approach
Working alongside Structures Group, our team handled every stage of the work. We transported the canopy, then cleaned, repaired and painted it before re-installing it.
The Result
A piece of Wigan's history has been protected and given a new life, so it can be enjoyed for many years to come. Projects like this are a privilege to be part of.
