Some jobs do not have a product name. A canopy over an entrance, a screen that has to look like it was always there, a feature staircase that is the first thing anyone sees, a set of gates, a run of hand-formed detail. We make those at our workshop in Little Hulton and install them ourselves.
Architectural work is a different discipline from structural work, even when it is the same steel. Structural steel has to be right. Architectural steel has to be right and look right, which means welds dressed back until they disappear, a finish that stays consistent along a twelve metre run, and fixings nobody notices.
Mild steel, stainless and aluminium.
Polished, painted, galvanised or left to weather, depending on what the piece has to do.
Most of this work arrives as an architect's drawing or a designer's visual, sometimes as a photograph of something similar. Our job is to turn it into something that can actually be made, transported, lifted and fixed, without losing what made the design good.
If a detail will not work, we say so early and suggest an alternative that keeps the intent. That conversation is much cheaper at drawing stage than after the steel is cut.
Yes. Plenty of good pieces start as a sketch and a conversation. We will produce proper fabrication drawings from it for approval before anything is cut.
Usually. Send photographs and measurements and we will tell you honestly how close we can get.
Yes, and we plan for it: protection, access, sequencing and clean working.
No.
