Project Overview

An alternator was housed inside a container with a fixed roof. With no easy way to get it out, replacing it would have meant a lot of cutting and disruption every time. We were asked to change the roof so it could be taken off and put back on as and when the alternator needs replacing.

The Challenge

The roof had to come off without damaging the container or the equipment inside. Once modified, it had to go back on securely and stay weathertight, but still be removable in the future without any cutting or welding.

Our Approach

We cut the existing roof off the container and modified it so it can be lifted off as one piece. We then went back on site to refit the roof, so it now sits securely in place and can be removed again whenever access is needed.

The Result

The container is sealed and protected as before, but the alternator can now be swapped out quickly when the time comes, with no cutting, no hot works and far less downtime.
