Bespoke & Architectural Metalwork, in Manchester

Some jobs do not have a product name. A canopy over an entrance, a screen that has to look like it was always there, a feature staircase that is the first thing anyone sees, a set of gates, a run of hand-formed detail. We make those at our workshop in Little Hulton and install them ourselves.

Architectural work is a different discipline from structural work, even when it is the same steel. Structural steel has to be right. Architectural steel has to be right and look right, which means welds dressed back until they disappear, a finish that stays consistent along a twelve metre run, and fixings nobody notices.

What we make

  • Feature and centrepiece staircases
  • Canopies, porticos and entrance frames
  • Screens, louvres and decorative panels
  • Gates, railings and estate metalwork
  • Retail and hospitality fit-out metalwork
  • Seasonal and display installations
  • Hand-formed detail and metal artwork
  • Benches, planters and street furniture
  • One-off pieces from a drawing, a visual, or a sketch

Mild steel, stainless and aluminium.

Polished, painted, galvanised or left to weather, depending on what the piece has to do.

Working from a design

Most of this work arrives as an architect's drawing or a designer's visual, sometimes as a photograph of something similar. Our job is to turn it into something that can actually be made, transported, lifted and fixed, without losing what made the design good.

If a detail will not work, we say so early and suggest an alternative that keeps the intent. That conversation is much cheaper at drawing stage than after the steel is cut.

Why this work suits us

  • We bend our own tube Curves without kinks, and continuous runs rather than welded facets. Up to 76 mm diameter.
  • Finishing is in house Welding, dressing and polishing happen in the same building, which is the only reliable way to get a consistent finish across a large piece.
  • We install our own work Feature pieces are usually awkward to fit, in finished spaces, with an audience. The people who made it are the right people to fit it.
  • One-offs are normal here A single piece gets the same attention as a structural package.

Who this is for

  • Architects
  • Interior and retail designers
  • Main contractors on fit-out work
  • Shopfitters
  • Developers
  • Private clients with something specific in mind

Common questions

Can you work from a sketch rather than a drawing?

Yes. Plenty of good pieces start as a sketch and a conversation. We will produce proper fabrication drawings from it for approval before anything is cut.

Can you match existing metalwork in a period building?

Usually. Send photographs and measurements and we will tell you honestly how close we can get.

Do you install in finished spaces?

Yes, and we plan for it: protection, access, sequencing and clean working.

Is there a minimum order?

No.
